DR MAKEUP - LOOKS ON BOOKS #9 -SPLINTERED BY A.G HOWARD

 

Hey guys! Casey here! today my LOOKS ON BOOKS is based on the epic novel by A.G Howard called Splintered.

Summary: This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. Makeup you will need:

1. Dark Green and Light Green Eyeshadow

2. Black Liquid liner

3. Red Lipstick

4. Mascara

5. Foundation

1. Apply your foundation

2. The only way to explain how to do the butterfly design is to look closely at this picture and try to use it as a template. A good tip: When you use the liquid liner for a steady hand balance your pinkie on your cheek.

3. Once you've done the outline get your dark and light green eye shadow, Apply the light eye shadow at the beginning of the butterfly, and then blend with the dark on the edges of the butterfly.

4. Get your liquid liner and add tentacles on your forehead.

5. Then apply your red lipstick and mascara and there you go :)

DR MAKEUP - LOOKS ON BOOKS #8 - A BREATH OF FROST BY ALYXANDRA HARVEY

Hey guys so today I decided to base my Looks On Books meme on the amazing novel A BREATH OF FROST by ALYXANDRA HARVEY.

Summary: Emma Day and her two cousins, Gretchen and Penelope, are uninterested in their debutante lives. All the boring balls, tiresome curtsying and polite conversation leave much to be desired. Then a girl is found dead, frost clinging to her lifeless body, and the murder is traced to Emma. As their world is turned upside down, Emma discovers more about herself and her cousins, from her connection to the murders to the secrets of her family legacy. Now the girls must embrace their true Lovegrove inheritance in order to stop the chaos, even if that means risking their lives. This was so fun to make. I wanted to make a snow flake effect. The things you will need:

1. White & Purple face paint

3. Black Mascara

4. Beige lipstick

5. Paint Brush

6. Silver glitter liquid liner

7. Foundation (colour that matches you)

8. Small face sponge

1. Apply some foundation you would usually use on a day to day basis (if you do)

2. Get your sponge dab into the white face paint and then apply around your eye and half way down your cheek. You only want half of your face white.

3. Dip your paint brush into the purple face paint and start to do a spike effect like in the picture from the corner of your eye

4. Add some mascara to your lashes. Make it really thick so your eyes pop.

5. Add some foundation or white face paint on your lips.

6. Along the purple lines add some glitter liquid liner to them to give it a shine.

And there you have it!

DR MAKEUP - LOOKS ON BOOKS #7 - BANISHED BY LIZ DE JAGER

Hey guys so today I decided to base my Looks On Books meme on the amazing novel BANISHED by LIZ DE JAGER. The amazing debut.

Summary: Kit is proud to be a Blackhart, now she’s encountered her unorthodox cousins and their strange lives. And her home-schooling now includes spells, fighting enemy fae and using ancient weapons. This was so fun to make. The things you will need:

1. White & Black liquid Liner

2. Black eye shadow

3. Black Mascara

4. Beige lipstick

5. Blending eye shadow brush

6. Silver glitter liquid liner

7. Foundation (colour that matches you)

1. Apply some foundation you would usually use on a day to day basis (if you do)

2. Darken your eyebrows with your black eye shadow.

3. Apply your black eye shadow from your eyelids to your eyebrows. Then blend around your eyes with a blending brush covering the whole eye.

4. Get your silver glitter liquid liner and run the brush along the bottom of your eye just below your water line. (It doesn't have to be neat) Then dab with your finger so it blends with the black eye shadow.

5. Get your black liquid liner, and from the corner of each eye start to do a sort of tree branch effect. Practise on your hand if you haven't done it before. Make sure you spread the branches along your forehead to. Make it look like the branches are growing out of your eyes.

6. Once your have done that with the black liner move to the white eyeliner. If your wondering "should you go over the black with the white?" YES! integrate the two I gives it a great effect.

7. Add some Mascara to your lashes and some foundation or pale lipstick to your lips and there you have it!

DR MAKEUP - LOOKS ON BOOKS #5

Hey guys so today I decided to base my Looks On Books meme on the amazing novel Unhinged by A.G Howard. The Sequel to Splintered.

Summary: Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole and faced the bandersnatch. She saved the life of Jeb, the guy she loves, and escaped the machinations of the disturbingly seductive Morpheus and the vindictive Queen Red. Now all she has to do is graduate high school and make it through prom so she can attend the prestigious art school in London she's always dreamed of.

That would be easier without her mother, freshly released from an asylum, acting overly protective and suspicious. And it would be much simpler if the mysterious Morpheus didn’t show up for school one day to tempt her with another dangerous quest in the dark, challenging Wonderland—where she (partly) belongs.

As prom and graduation creep closer, Alyssa juggles Morpheus’s unsettling presence in her real world with trying to tell Jeb the truth about a past he’s forgotten. Glimpses of Wonderland start to bleed through her art and into her world in very disturbing ways, and Morpheus warns that Queen Red won’t be far behind.

If Alyssa stays in the human realm, she could endanger Jeb, her parents, and everyone she loves. But if she steps through the rabbit hole again, she'll face a deadly battle that could cost more than just her head

This was so fun to do. The stuff you will need for the basic look is:

1. Purple and white face paint

2. Purple and green eye shadow

3. Purple Lipstick

4. eye lashes

5. Black Liquid eyeliner

6. Small Paint brush

1. Apply some pale foundation or a foundation lighter than your skin tone on your face then start to blend the purple eyeshadow on both your lids.

2. Once that's done get your thin paint brush dab it into the purple face paint and start to do swirls from your waterline running down your cheek like the picture above and the book cover pic. Try to make it as neat as possible.

3. At the ends of the swirls add a white dot or a green dot in the middle of the circle just to add a flowery effect.

4. Get you black eyeliner and from the inside of your eye lid draw a line and flick it at the end just under your eyebrows. Its gives an effect to make your eyes look bigger!

5. With your black eyeliner draw a small circle above your cheek bone and then draw 3 lines coming out from each side of the circle, so it looks like you have a spider on your cheek.

6. Once that is done get some purple lipstick apply it onto your lips and then on your bottom lip put some silver lipstick in the middle and blend.

DR MAKEUP - LOOKS ON BOOKS #4

LOOKS ON BOOKS is a MEME hosted by myself Casey at Dark Readers. Its a feature of mine that combines my two favourite things makeup and books. I base my looks on the cover of the books or the characters so check it out :D

Hey guys so today I decided to base my Looks On Books meme on the amazing novel AngelFall by Susan EE. I decided to base this look on the EPIC ANGELIC book cover check it out:

Summary: It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

This was probably the hardest book cover to do a look on. There is so much colour, blending and woah going on it was really tricky. I gave it my best shot! So what makeup you will need for the basic look is

1. White and purple face paint.

2. brown and gold eye shadow

3. silver and black liquid liner.

4. silver or black lipstick

5. A small paint brush

6. Pair of eyelashes

1. Get a Sponge of some sort and gently start to dab the white face paint on your face, Especially around the eyes and cheeks avoid the mouth area as you want to put lipstick on.

2. Once that's done get the same sponge you used and start to gently blend the purple face paint into the white. You can use dark blue instead of purple but I liked how the purple looked more.

3. Once that is done get an eye shadow brush and dip it into your brown eye shadow. Dab the brush onto your cheeks to make brown dots. Blend it into the white and purple face paint but not to much. Do the same with the yellow and gold eye shadow.

4. Once that's done get your gold eye shadow and brush it on your eyelids. It doesn't have to be neat at all as you can see the book cover is a blast of colour too.

7. Once all your colours are blended its time to draw the wings on your eyes and forehead. Now this it can be very messy and very tricky! so all I can say is make sure your liquid liner brush has a thin tip. All you need to do is a wing like effect like the one above. A Tip is to balance your little finger on your cheek as you do it, It helps your balance.

8. Once that is done place your eyelashes and some mascara on your eyes and some black or silver lipstick and there you have it! the ANGELFALL LOOK! READ MY REVIEW FOR THE NOVEL HERE

DR MAKEUP - LOOKS ON BOOKS #3

Hey guys so today I decided to base my Looks On Books meme on the amazing novel Hollow pike by James Dawson. I decided to base this look on the EPIC WITCHY book cover check it out:

Summary: Something wicked this way comes...

She thought she’d be safe in the country, but you can’t escape your own nightmares, and Lis London dreams repeatedly that someone is trying to kill her. Lis thinks she’s being paranoid - after all who would want to murder her? She doesn’t believe in the local legends of witchcraft. She doesn’t believe that anything bad will really happen to her. You never do, do you? Not until you’re alone in the woods, after dark - and a twig snaps... Hollow Pike - where witchcraft never sleeps

If you notice there are these awesome tree branches and birds flying in the background. This is what I wanted my look to be based on. Here we go:

1. Get some purple eyeshadow or cream based facepaint and lightly dab it with a foundation brush across the side of your face. You can put as much on your face as you want but I just decided to put it on half of my face and blend it into my natural colour.

2. Once the purple is how you want it, Place some black eye shadow on your eye and blend that into the purple.

3. Once that is done get a black eyeliner (I would recommend Rimmel London glam eyes) and start to work from the top of your forehead, running lines down the side of your face. DO NOT let the lines be to straight. The lines need to look like branches, so go crazy with them. They do not need to be neat.

4. Once thats done grab yourself some feathered eyelashes. I decided to use these ones because I feel they just suit the book cover so well. I get my eyelashes off ebay because they are cheap and AMAZING quality. If you're doing the same look as me I only put one eyelash on my right eye to blend with the purple.

5. Once thats done add some black lipstick and there you have it! My Hollow Pike by James Dawson Inspired look :).

DR MAKEUP - LOOKS ON BOOKS #2

Hey guys so today I decided to base my Looks On Books meme on the amazing novel Hidden By Marianne Curley. I absolutly love this novel! Angels are my fav. I decided to base this look on the UK book cover check it out:

Summary: For as long as Ebony can remember, she's been sheltered. Confined to her home in a secluded valley, home-schooled by her protective parents, and limited to a small circle of close friends. It's as if she's being hidden. But something is changing in Ebony. Something that can't be concealed. She's growing more beautiful by the day, she's freakishly strong, and then there's the fact that she's glowing.

On one fateful night, Ebony meets Jordan and she's intensely drawn to him. It's as if something explodes inside of her--something that can be seen from the heavens. Ebony still doesn't know that she's a stolen angel, but now that the heavens have found her, they want her back

If you notice there are these awesome white swirls and because the book is about angels I wanted to use feathered eyelashes. Here is my look:

1. Get a Black Liquid eyeliner I would recommend Glam eyes by Rimmel London it is AMAZING.  place some eyeliner on your lower lash line.

2. Then from your lash line flick the eyeliner down your check to make it a

curlying look. Make sure you add the black dot to the end. This is what the swirls on the cover do.

3. Get some feathered eyelashes and glue them onto your eyelids. I used a half blue half black set which match the book cover colours.

4. For your lips get a silver lipstick or if you do not have one get some clear lip gloss place that upon your lips then add some silver or purple eye shadow ontop.

And there you have it. My Looks On Books Hidden by Marianne Curley Book cover inspired look.
