Book Review: When You Were Mine By Rebecca Serle

Name: When You Were Mine
Author: Rebecca Serle
UK Publisher: Simon and Schuster
UK Release date: 26th of April 2012
Summary: In this intensely romantic, modern recounting of the greatest love story ever told, Romeo’s original intended—Juliet’s cousin Rosaline—tells her side of the tale. What’s in a name, Shakespeare? I’ll tell you: Everything. Rosaline knows that she and Rob are destined to be together. Rose has been waiting for years for Rob to kiss her—and when he finally does, it’s perfect. But then Juliet moves back to town. Juliet, who used to be Rose’s best friend. Juliet, who now inexplicably hates her. Juliet, who is gorgeous, vindictive, and a little bit crazy...and who has set her sights on Rob. He doesn’t even stand a chance. Rose is devastated over losing Rob to Juliet. This is not how the story was supposed to go. And when rumors start swirling about Juliet’s instability, her neediness, and her threats of suicide, Rose starts to fear not only for Rob’s heart, but also for his life. Because Shakespeare may have gotten the story wrong, but we all still know how it ends….

Review: So as most of you guys know if you follow me on twitter or on the blog that I absolutely love Romeo and Juliet. So when I heard about when you were mine from a fellow blogger I had to read it! And I'm glad I did.

I get annoyed sometimes when books are compared to Romeo and Juliet just for the fact that it's a love story and the book is actually nothing like Romeo and Juliet. But the only story you can compare "when you were mine" to is Romeo And Juliet and its beautiful.

I think this book was cleverly written. Not original but some things don't have to be original for them to be tremendous. I loved the little hints and similarities to R&J for example the lead character is Rosaline and The lead guy isn't Romeo but close enough Rob.  I think Rebecca has an awesome idea when starting this book. Why not change it around let's here the story from Rosaline POV.
Beautiful, edgy, romantic, unusual and unflinching are just some of the words I use to describe this novel

I think this story is a lovely new take on Romeo and Juliet and what it means to love someone, first loves, first experiences and just things that teenagers go through in their day to day lives so I think the story was very relatable!

Shocking twists, beautiful moments and The heartbreak all over again from reading Romeo and Juliet to this.... You know how it ends guys... But maybe there is some light at the end of the tunnel? You'll have to read and find out! I defiantly recommend it.

I've had my eye on this one for awhile. I think making the book from Rosaline's point of view is a very interesting twist. I can't wait to read this one. Great review :)
