Author Guest post: Ali McNamara tells us about where she writes.

Hello, Hayley here...if you're a regular follower of Dark-Readers you'll know that I truly loved Ali McNamara's debut novel 'From Notting Hill With Love Actually' click this link here to read my review.
So now I pass over to the lovely Ali.

I am where I write…

When I write I love to immerse myself as much as possible in the world the characters are going to inhabit during the story.

With my first novel From Notting Hill With Love…Actually which was about a girl that adored the movies, I watched loads and loads of films, (all in the name of research!) and visited the Notting Hill area of London several times, so I could set the main part of the story there.

With my second book Breakfast at Darcy’s the idea for the story came when I was on a touring holiday of Ireland and I visited the remote island of Great Blasket in Co Kerry. So this time I knew the setting, but I was able to explore the many Celtic myths and legends that immediately sprang to mind during the writing. There are mentions of Finn McCool a mythical Irish warrior who is reputed to have built the Giant’s Causeway, and the Claddagh ring, a traditional Irish ring given as a token of friendship or love.

For my third book I went on my first trip to New York City. It’s a sequel to my first novel, and some of the things that happen to Scarlett, the main character are based on real events that happened to me while I was there.

And my fourth book, well that’s a bit of a secret right now, I’ve just begun writing it, but I’ve visited lots of music based landmarks and I’m listening to quite a lot of Beatles tunes at the moment…

I’ll leave it with you…

Ali :)
