Book Review: Passion By Lauren Kate

Name: Passion
Author: Lauren kate
Publisher: Random House
Summary: Luce would die for Daniel. And she has. Over and over again. Throughout time, Luce and Daniel have found each other, only to be painfully torn apart: Luce dead, Daniel left broken and alone. But perhaps it doesn’t need to be that way. . .

Review: Passion is the third book in the Fallen series by Lauren Kate.Firstly I can't help but mention how beautiful the cover is.My copy also came with a beautiful poster exclusive to WHSmith.I had been eagerly awaiting this novel from the minute I had finished reading Torment.

I needed to know more about Daniel and Luce's adventure and whether they would genuinely be able to be happy together. Or would there be a further twist to their story? The way Lauren Kate writes 'Passion', you can feel and empathise with Luce's short lived passion.
Throughout I found myself constantly hoping that she would find the answers that she needs.

I don't usually like books that go back and forth between past and present but I actually enjoyed the fact that this book did. The way Lauren Kate described each era was beautiful. I was hooked on each and every page. I did not want to put it down. 'Passion' is a novel you cannot live without and I think the flicking between past and present aided that.Even though all the main characters from the previous books feature, they only have very small parts. It centres around Luce and Daniel their former selves and the very strange Bill. I wasn't sure on Bill, he was too good to be true. I won't spoil it for you as I want you to explore his character as I did.

The description in 'Passion' is so vivid. You can feel every emotion, smell every smell, hear every sound. It's like each sense is heightened. One minute you're hot the next you are cold.
This book will make you believe that we all have a soul mate out there who will always choose us no matter what. There are so many twists and 'NO!!!' moments in this book. If I'd read the last few chapters on public transport like I usually do, I would have been sectioned.

Lauren Kate is known for her cliffhanger ending and 'Passion' is no different. If anything I think the end is very similar to 'Torment'.Yet you may well disagree with me. I'd love to hear your comments either way.
I am yet again so excited for next summer's final instalment 'Rapture', although I will be sad when Daniel and Luce's journey comes to an end. Will it be the happy ever after that we all want? I get the feeling it'll be a rollercoaster ride and I cannot wait for the thrills.

I must say the only reason why I persisted with the book Passion is that I was clinging onto the vain hope of some form of understanding and clarification from the whole plot,

I'm usually not the type of person who will go out of there way to write a review about something but clearly this book has left me just so confused and perhaps even more disappointed, that I felt compelled to find out if I was the only one that just didn't quite get it?? after reading a lot of other reviews about the book Passion, i am glad to note that I am not the only one.

The story line and settings lack substance and purpose, while the characters actions and intentions are left unexplained.
All that the reader is assured of is how gorgeous Daniel is and how she wants to kiss him all the time, it seems to me that Luce and Daniel hardly communicated verbally at all and the characters have not managed established a foundation or reason behind their remarkably strong chemistry.

To add to the mayhem and confusion the pervious characters from the first and second book seem to appear then disappear conveniently and without any reason though out the novel.

None of the original characters have really been brought to life in this book, almost like they have been pushed to the side.

Most frustratingly, Luce seems incapable of asking informative questions or taking charge on this vital 'quest' and the reader is tagging along all the way without any understand of what exactly it is she's looking for???

ironically whilst Luce is out trying to justify the love her and Daniel share, I as reader am left even more confused about the characters and the plot (which keeps changing without any sense of direction) and i am left to vindicate my reasons for following this story to the end.

Totally agree with Ebony! You have put into words what I found so off putting about this book. I too persisted hoping to find answers but Luce annoyingly never seems to ask any.

I recommend these books if you're a lover of the supernatural genre, they're well written, and each book builds in it's telling of the tale, a real page turner, i skipped through it in no time at all, and the book is left with what should be a brilliant final book next year.
