Blog Tour: Book Review and Extract from Collide By Gail McHugh

Name: Collide
Author: Gail McHugh
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
Summary: A missed first encounter…
Colliding with a second chance…
On the heels of graduating college and trying to cope with her mother’s death, Emily Cooper moves to New York City for a fresh start.
While harbouring secrets of his own, Dillon Parker takes care of Emily through her grief. Knowing he can’t live without her by his side, he’s sweet, thoughtful, and everything Emily has ever wanted in a man.
Until she meets Gavin Blake—a rich and notorious playboy who is dangerously sexy and charming as hell. Emily tries to deny the instant connection she feels, but Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome is not inclined to let go so easily. Recovering from his own painful past, Gavin will stop at nothing to win Emily over.
This unexpected encounter compels Emily to question her decisions, forcing her to make a choice that will destroy friendships, shatter hearts, and forever change her life.

Review: Firstly, I must thank Kate @TheHotBed for another awesome recommendation.
So far this year she has given me two book hangovers. First there was Colleen Hoover's Maybe Someday and now Gail McHugh's Collide, the first in the Collide series. This is by far one of my favourite books of 2014. If I hadn't banned myself from purchasing books at the moment I would have downloaded Pulse- the second in the series. As the ebook is already available. How my will power has resisted the urge for more Gavin Blake I really do not know.
I don't know how to do this book justice, what I will say is at times I nearly forgot to breathe, it was that intense.

Now you remember when everyone was getting on the Fifty Shades bandwagon and everyone wanted a Mr Grey. Well think of Christan Grey and then think of a million times better, and a guy that genuinely loves, enter Gavin Blake of Blake Industries.
Gail McHugh has written a novel that covers a love story, a love triangle, grief and abuse just to name a few of the issues that arise within this story.
OMG! I cannot describe how out of this world Gail's writing is. That first kiss between Emily and Gavin was off the scale, the description was so good that it made me feel like I was experiencing this kiss. Don't get me wrong there are some awesome sex scenes but this novel is so much more than that.

Emily has gone through so much in her life and for her Dillon has been there for her in every way. Now I move onto Dillon, from quite early on I realised that I didn't like him. He came across as arrogant, selfish and damn right possessive. Dillon may well be an attractive man who works hard and earns a decent wage. But he is a bully, he talks to Emily likes she is dirt- he's over possessive of her and clearly cannot trust her. Dillon is mentally abusing Emily and at times I wanted to shake her and tell her to wise up and to give in to her obvious feelings for Gavin. Whereas Mr Blake is mysterious, full of cheek and so good looking that you'd make reasons to see/speak to him.
I loved the build up and the tension between Gavin and Emily, the bottle top situation was so sweet and intimate and only Emily, Gavin and us the readers could understand the full meaning of the token. Olivia, Fallon and Trevor were also awesome characters oh and not forgetting Gavin's hilarious brother Colton and he's gorgeous children.

Collide is fast paced with some OMG! seriously intense moments and a few twists and shocking situations along the way. If you were disappointed with Fifty Shades or even if you enjoyed Fifty Shades then make sure you grab a copy of Collide, and from August you can also get a copy of Pulse the second in this heart stopping series by the fantastic Gail McHugh.

As today the Collide tour stops with us here is a taster from the book I enjoyed so much...

Pg 150:

Emily returned his hot gaze with one of her own, showing a streak of defiance as she tried to catch her breath. "What do you want from me?"

"I want you to give in to what I see behind your eyes every time I'm near you." Slowly-so slowly- he licked his lips. His brilliant blue eyes hardened with palpable lust. "I want you to give in to the way you trembled in my arms when I touched you, the way your breathing becomes faster when I look at you."

She stared at him, her heart ricocheting in her chest, but she couldn't form a sentence.

"I love the way your lips felt against mine, and I'm pretty sure you did, too. I also enjoy the way I can almost feel you becoming wet for me right now." Leaning in closer, he dropped his voice to a hard whisper. "Are you going to pretend you don't feel anything for me, Emily?"

He wasn't even touching her, yer he was correct- her panties were damp. She hated that he was right; she hated that he noticed every physical and emotional reaction she had toward him. And she hated that she wanted him so badly she could taste it. Damn him. "I'm not answering your question."
