Book Review: Safe Haven By Nicholas Sparks

Name: Safe Haven
Author: Nicholas Sparks
Publisher: Sphere

Summary:

When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with Alex, a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken single neighbor, Jo. Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community and becoming increasingly attached to Alex and his family.

But even as Katie begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her . . . a past that set her on a fearful, shattering journey across the country, to the sheltered oasis of Southport. With Jo’s empathic and stubborn support, Katie eventually realizes that she must choose between a life of transient safety and one of riskier rewards . . . and that in the darkest hour, love is the only true safe haven.

Review:

What can I say? 'Safe Haven' well and truly blew me away.
I've been a fan of Nicholas Sparks for a while now and he never fails to deliver.
I'm not going to lie I think I've cried at every single book of his and 'Safe Haven' was no different.
It has been a while since I've picked up one of his novels but they are always worth every second.
It's also like discovering Nicholas all over again which is a truly beautiful feeling.
I remember hunting out copies of his books in all sorts of places, charity shops, boot sales and discount stores.
I could have finished reading this novel in a few days, but the intensity of Alex and Katie's stories made me need a break.
The term rollercoaster of emotions is often widely used in reviews but with any Nicholas Sparks novel it's usually the truth.
I won't ruin the story but he tackles real-life issues with grace.
His use of imagery makes you feel like you're experiencing everything the characters are.
Katie's secret is intense and in some parts terrifying.
Even though she is quite obviously describing her past, as a reader I'm on the edge of my seat.
Nicholas Sparks writes captivating novels that have you hooked from the very first page.
I cannot thank Liz enough for introducing me to the work of Mr Sparks I've been hooked ever since.
For a man to write about love the way he does, sure gives me hope for the future.

'Safe Haven' was cleverly written and the last few chapters were both surprising and as I say very well thought of.
I can't say anymore without ruining the story but I can say go read 'Safe Haven' you will not be disappointed.

Safe Haven blew me away too. The way he describes their love, and their personalities... it is amazing. Nicholas Sparks is truly a man who knows what he's doing. I also used to hunt for his books everywhere, but then I discovered Amazon and eBay, so now I can focus more on reading than on hunting books (although I do miss the thrill of finding a book under a pile of newspapers). Good review, I like it very much. Keep on writing, you have talent.
