Book Review: Soul Fire By Kate Harrison

Name: Soul Fire
Author: Kate Harrison
Publisher: Indigo

Summary: Welcome to Soul Beach. People are dying to get here. Alice Forster talks to her dead sister, Meggie, in the virtual world of Soul Beach- an online paradise for the young, the beautiful and the dead but paradise can be stifling and the beach's guests want to move on. If Alice can solve the mystery of her sister's murder then Meggie will be free. But passions are running high, the temperatures rising and as Alice get's closer to finding the killer, the killer is getting closer to Alice.

Review: Firstly, I'd like to make it clear that 'Soul Fire' is the second in the series. The emotional rollercoaster ride that is Alice Forster's life has just taken an unexpected turn. The novel is just as enticing as the first instalment but in 'Soul Fire' the tension is on a much higher scale. I love the way there is also a series of comments from the killer- or is it? I love this series, I'm never sure who to trust and I always have a different thought or opinion. Not only is Alice unsure of who she can trust and confide in, as a reader we're also left wondering. The story has so many twists and turns that as a reader you're not expecting.
Someone rather unexpected arrives on the beach, does this prove how Megan died or does this make Alice question everything once again. Alice's trip to Barcelona with friends takes the story on a journey that I was not expecting- and I don't think Alice was either.
I like how real Kate has made this, as Alice's parents are clearly still grieving for their eldest daughter- they argue, they worry about Alice, Alice is even banned from the internet as her parents worry that she's living an obsession, rather than a life of a teenage girl.
'Soul Fire' is the most enticing, exciting, intriguing and compelling read this Summer.

I am so sorry for my absence I aim to be back on fine form for you guys before I leave for California...

Book Review: Anna Dressed In Blood By Kendare Blake

Name: Anna Dressed In Blood
Author: Kendare Blake
UK publisher: Orchard
UK Release Date: OUT NOW
Summary: Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead. So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay. When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn’t expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home. And she, for whatever reason, spares his life.

Review: Anna dressed in blood. I think the title pretty much says it all. Blood, horror, romance as totally on edge. When I see ghosts in my head they look perfectly real and solid -- like a living human being. They are not misty; I can’t see through them; they don’t wear sheets or bloody mummy bandages. They don’t have their heads tucked under their arms. They just look like ordinary people, in living colour, and sometimes it is hard to tell who is a ghost. There may be ghosts around us that look perfectly human and Kendare Blakes story has just made that even more prominent.

3 words to describe this novel. ORIGINAL, ORIGINAL and ORIGINAL. A ghost hunting teenage boy goes on a hunt to find a ghost in a scary hunted house but ends up falling in love with her instead. Amazing. I always look for exciting books. I've read a lot of YA in the last couple of years and it's always nice to find a novel that blows me away and gets me excited for the next novels from the author.

I loved how much your kept on edge in this book. It's like a will they won't they situation between Cas and Anna through out! It kept me reading, it kept me intrigued and it defiantly kept me up all night. Love, excitement, death. Blood, sweat and tears are only some of the words I can use to describe the brilliance of this book. I never get tired of reading the scenes between these characters! Kendare takes you to a place that challenges your imagination and screams at you through the page.

I loved the scary moments in this story! Bloody walls, slamming cupboards, screaming, knifes and all sorts of gore it was spectacular
I loved every part of this book. I love ghost stories and this is one heck of a ghost story

Another random week #2 CASEY

Yes, Hello, Hi! It's Casey here your stranger of a reviewer.... Why you ask? BECAUSE I HAVE NO INTERNET. Ok let me calm myself before I have a meltdown. Basically I have no Internet till next week because I've been so busy with work I actually haven't had the chance to get the Internet lol. Anyways enough of me moaning how are you guys? I've Missed you terribly.
I've had another random week, work, crazy people and buying vampire fangs. Yes I said vampire fangs, you want to know why? Nope not telling you just yet! Soon I will though! So I've been location scouting around London and just thinking of cool places to film! I came across this

Spooky huh? There is a Devil legend associated with Bleeding Heart Yard that ends in the horrific death of Lady Elizabeth Hatton. But I'll let you google that. ;)

Also I went to a QNA with Lee weatherly, Zoe Marriot at foyles in London and got this epic goodie bag! I filmed the whole thing! So that should be up soon :)

Yeah so it's been an interesting week. The Olympics are happening in London right now and the olympic ceremony was AMAZING the red arrows even flew over my house! Check it out!

So about this whole reason I'm buying fangs it's top secret but I will leave you with this little picture to wet your appetite ;)

Book Review: Stolen Night By Rebecca Maizel

Name: Stolen Night
Author: Rebecca Maizel
UK Publisher: Mac Millan
UK Release Date: OUT NOW
Summary: Lenah Beaudonte should be dead. But having sacrificed herself to save another, she finds herself awakening with strange powers that are neither vampire nor human—and a new enemy on her trail. In her vampire life, Lenah had thought that being human was all she ever wanted; but the human heart suffers pain, heartbreak and loss. With her new powers growing and the dark force of the Nex after her soul, Lenah faces a choice: between the mortal love of gorgeous Justin, whose passion fed her human soul, and taking a different path to become the mistress of her own destiny, wherever that may lead...

Review: So I've been in a reading slump for the last couple of weeks. I honestly don't know why just feel like I can't get into anything, but Stolen night sequel to Infinite days by Rebecca Maizel has stopped that slump and in a spectacular way. Here are my reasons: I read infinite days about a year ago or more, I completely loved it! Yes it's about vampires and yes there are so many vampire books now but honestly this book is in a amazing world of its own. So when Stolen night came around I was more than ready and excited to get back into this world.

The emotions that I felt reading this book were barbaric. Honestly haven't had a good cry reading a book in awhile and this just made me cry buckets. When you watch a movie or read a book and you get that pain in your chest that you can't explain that feeling that takes you breathe away for a moment is what I felt turning each page of this book.
I love the characters in this novel. Rhode is one of my favorite YA guy characters. He's such a troubled romantic beautiful character that you honestly can't help buy fall in love with. Rebecca writes him so elegantly. The relationship between him and lenah is beautiful I couldn't help but swoon for them thought out the novel! Forbidden love is always the worst but yet so addicting to follow.
Justin Oh Justin. The good-looking friend who you can't help fall for. His amazing personality and brave character brought so much to the story. Shocking moments from him literally had my mouth hanging open. Bag girl Rebecca Ha! The plot was even better than the first novel! So artfully written and in the edge. I could totally see these series becoming movies because of the way Rebecca writes! Everything is so detail it's astonishing!

I could talk and talk about this book for hours. All I will say is if you a fan of bad vampires and not the glittering awful type then this is the EPIC book for you! This how a vampire book is done my friends!

Debutantes By Cora Harrison Blog Tour

Hey guys so Dark Readers are on Debutante by Cora Harrison's Blog tour!
Shes here today to talk about 1920's make-up, fashion and why she loves writting about the 1920's
here is her post!

Cora Harrison says: One of the reasons why I love writing about the 1920s was that it was such a time of change. Suddenly girls like Violet, Poppy, Daisy and Rose, whose father and great-aunt were Victorians, began to realise that life, times and fashions had utterly changed.

And, of course, the big way that these changes were sweeping the world, was the cinema.

It’s hard for us nowadays to realise the effect that films had on the people of the 1920s. Men, women and children were going to the cinema, sometimes every night in the week. The films in a particular cinema would be changed between three and five times a week.

And in those films people would see how the stars, mostly from Hollywood, were dressed, what sort of hats they wore, how they cut their hair, how they made up their faces.

And, of course, they would go home and practise the same look – and, if their parents allow – even sometimes behind their parents’ back – they would get their hair cut in the latest bob-style, just like Lila Lee for instance:

Thanks Cora thats an interesting insight into your inspirations! Debutantes is out now in the UK so go get it! I also did my take on 1920 make-up! check it out! :) also make sure you go to the next stop of the blog tour at Daisy Chain Books
