Casey's Interview with Cassandra Clare!

Hello there beautiful people. So City of Heavenly fire is soon to be out. It'll be the end of the TMI series (sobs). Today I thought I would post an interview I did with Cassandra Clare as she talks about Naughty Sebastian! check it out!

Okay now to the interview. I recorded this on a voice recorder and then typed it out for you guys!

If valentine was alive... what one question do you think Sebastian would ask?

I think he would ask him whether he loved him or Jace.

How do you write such intense scenes between him and Clary because some of them can be very uncomfortable and his feelings towards her can be very creepy.

Sebastian can be a very creepy guy. um Sebastian is kind of a interesting, sometimes fun, pleasant character to write because he doesn't just have feelings like people have feelings, so you have to kind of think about what it would be like to be this person. when you're writing a villain you have to think about when thats relatable, something that you can understand and kind of um sympathize with because otherwise its impossible to write about them, so with valentine I was able to sympathize with the fact that he loved Jace and his family, so I was able to kind of see him as human. But with Sebastian it was kind of hard because hes so removed from other human beings. I think of him as someone whos very obsessed with being lonely and being conscious that he is because of the tempering that valentine did with him, the only creature like him that exists in the world. and he can see from the outside and understand that human beings have connections with each other that make them happy, but he doesn't understand why. He would like to be happy but he doesn't understand how it works. So what hes trying to do with Clary and Jace is to create those connections that he thinks make people happy. He has these terrible inappropriate feelings about both of them um because their both the people he thinks would probably be most like him, because you know Clary is his blood and Jace was brought up by the same man as him. He thinks these are the people that are most like him, and if he can make them more like him then he will have companions and I will have that thing that makes other people happy. The fact that he may or not want a sexual relationship with Clary or even with Jace is impossible to tell. He just has no idea what appropriate feelings are about family at all.

You recently wrote a really good post on the sexual assault aspect of city of lost souls does it bother you that sometimes people find Sebastian attractive?

*Cassandra Laughs* ummm does it bother me? I think people are entitled to their reaction and again I went through a lot of back and fourth with the sexual assault. If they find it horrifying and sickling then of course thats fine you know its absolutely valid. I was horrified and sickened while writing it I was like "WHAT IS HE DOING THIS IS DISGUSTING" ha-ha, But I really felt like it had to be in there. You know Sebastian's desperate desire to connect with someone and the fact that he chooses the absolutely wrong way about it. You know...that felt like there was really no other action that he could take that would clearly show what he was doing. And no I don't find it bothering that people find him attractive.. I mean I trust readers. Its in the same way we watch silent of the lambs and we are kinda fascinated by the character of Cannibal Lector. You don't ACTUALLY want to know him. I mean the movie didn't make people want to go out and marry psycho paths, but I believe that people can find something fascinating or attractive in the fiction knowing perfectly well that in real life it would be horrible. *me and Cassandra laughing*

Do you think Sebastian is Jealous of Clary because she was brought up away from Valentine and the shadow Hunter world?

No I don't. I think Sebastian has a pretty sumptuous view of the mundane world and he considers that Clary's mundane upbringing to be a weakness that needs to be purged from her. I think that when hes talks to her in the club (City of lost souls) and shes out of it hes saying "You do have a dark heart, you're like me".

Has Sebastian ever been in Love? and what do you think his Ideal women would be?

*Cassandra Laughs* he cant love. to really be in love. you have to care about the person more than you care about yourself, you have to have empathy and he doesn't have that. You have to be able to see the person as a separate human individual and feel their pain and happiness. He doesn't really have that. He feels desire and loneliness  and longing and I think those are the feelings he feels about Clary and Jace. I think his ideal women would be a women version of him because he is able to love himself *Cassandra laughs* and he is the most important person in his own life. I think he wishes maybe Valentine would of made a girl that was just like him and then they could be together and completely understand each other.

Do you think Sebastian has a fear?

Oh yeah I do think hes afraid of things. I think hes afraid of his sister and her powers. I think hes afraid of what she might do. I think he a little afraid of Jace as well. I think he knows that his father created them to be powerful in their own way and the opposite of him. Its like a Ying Yang thing. Hes half of the dark circle and Jace and Clary are the lighter half of the circle.

Do think Sebastian would of done anything defiantly?

Oh you mean if he could do it all over again? *we both laugh* sure he would have. Yeah hes defiantly made some mistakes. I mean in City of Lost souls he underestimates Clary as she blows up his apartment. He even underestimates Jace. I mean even under mine control and being generally controlled by him Jace was still able to break out of it a bit. I think he would of kept a MUCH closer Eye on Clary.

Is there anything Sebastian is most proud of?

I think hes proud now of what he did in COLS. With the infernal Cup hes created. Hes very proud of his idea. He really wants to burn the world down. He really is on his way to do it. By the end of the book he kills an angel and cuts of its wings and thats quite a accomplishment, in a disgusting way. I mean to summon an angel and defeate it in a battle, hes defiantly sent a very strong message to the clave saying you know Im not somebody to be messed around with, you are not going to be able to stand against me........

OHHHH COHF is going to be epic guys. I am so nervous to see what Sebastian will do next! not long to wait people! 28th OF MAY 2014!!!

Book Review: What Happens Next by Colleen Clayton

12819342
Title:What Happens Next
Author: Colleen Clayton
Publisher: Poppy
Summary: How can you talk about something you can’t remember?

Before the ski trip, sixteen-year-old Cassidy “Sid” Murphy was a cheerleader (at the bottom of the pyramid, but still...), a straight-A student, and a member of a solid trio of best friends. When she ends up on a ski lift next to handsome local college boy, Dax Windsor, she’s thrilled; but Dax takes everything from Sid—including a lock of her perfect red curls—and she can’t remember any of it.

Back home and unable to relate to her old friends, Sid drops her college prep classes and takes up residence in the A/V room with only Corey “The Living Stoner” Livingston for company. But as she gets to know Corey (slacker, baker, total dreamboat), Sid finds someone who truly makes her happy. Now, if she can just shake the nightmares and those few extra pounds, everything will be perfect... or so she thinks.

Witty and poignant, Colleen Clayton’s stunning debut is a story about moving on after the unthinkable happens.

Review: So, what happens when your life changes from a single interaction, a single moment… but you can’t remember the moment that altered your life? This is a reality for Sid Murphy. She is a bottom-of-the-pyramid cheerleader that spends most of her spare time with her two best friends Paige and Kirsten. The girls are vastly different and yet that is what has made their friendship work over the years. So when Paige and Kirsten who both are more experienced skiers join ski club Sid knows that she needs to as well. It is at the ski trip, because of the ski trip that Sid’s life is immeasurably altered.

In Clayton’s debut novel I was plunged into a world where although Sid Murphy wasn’t perfect and didn’t have the perfect body she did have very real insecurities and, to me, she was real. She makes one very real mistake that any teenage girl could make when she meets college cutie Dax Windsor. Meeting Dax and being invited to a party was a very exciting moment for Sid. But that excitement is replaced by a vastly different emotion when she wakes to find that she cannot remember anything from the night before. She is in denial but he has taken everything from Sid including a strand of her bouncing red curls and she does not know how to cope.

Throughout What Happens Next we not only read about Sid’s downward spiral, but we experience it, too. With each moment of denial and with each excuse I wanted to scream at Sid. “Please! Tell SOMEONE!” I wanted to shake her, and then hug her. And cry with her. Because although this novel is about a girl trying to find her way and put back together the pieces after the unthinkable happens it is also about not judging a book by its cover. It’s about not assuming that you know who someone is based on appearance or rumor alone. It is about friendship and trust and moving on. This is an absolutely amazing contemporary read. I truly feel like Sid is someone I know, a friend that I just experienced all of this with. I haven’t felt that way about a contemporary read in quite a while.

Book Review: Maybe Someday By Colleen Hoover

Name: Maybe Someday
Author: Colleen Hoover
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
Summary: At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.
Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbour, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…

Review: Wow wow just wow!!!! I well and truly lost my heart and soul to 'Maybe Someday'. If you think of the most unconventional love story as well as imagining every single complication humanly possible, you're still not even close to Ridge and Sydney's epic love story. I found myself finding it hard to breathe whilst inhaling their story.
As a reader I was on the edge of my seat throughout, Colleen definitely knows how to build up the tension of a story until the very last words.
Sydney is a love able girl who finds out that her best friend and her boyfriend are cheating on her on her birthday. This news would shatter anyone on any day of the week but on your birthday, that's just as rough as it gets.
Sydney's head is all over the place, but one thing that she's certain of is that she doesn't want to run home to her parents. So when Sydney is shocked by kindness and given a place to stay by her adorable neighbour Ridge, she is instantly intrigued by the guy who plays the guitar so impressively each night on the balcony. I love how Colleen has written both from Sydney and Ridge's point of view and I especially liked the different text for the emails and messages, it gave a real feel to the story and how each of the characters were really feeling throughout.

For me a love story with a guitarist is just like a slice of heaven.....there are sooo many complications that make this story complex, intriguing and amazing. Ridge and Sydney become great friends through music he plays and occasionally writes. Yet when he meets Sydney he has the worst case of writers block, that is until she comes along and changes everything he has ever known.
I was constantly on edge to know what would happen next....when I said complicated you would not believe quite how complicated until you start reading Colleen's breath-taking novel. I could say so much more but I do not wish to ruin the story for any of you. It's something that you have to uncover as a reader. It's quite clear that Ridge and Sydney are perfect for each other, but it's not quite that simple. Maggie has been Ridge's one and only since he was nineteen years-old and Sydney has just been betrayed by the two people she cared about most in the world, and she's not prepared to be that same woman to someone else.

'Maybe Someday' will draw you in and spit you out but my oh my what a breath-taking journey it was. The twists were huge and covered a number of real-life issues. If you choose to read this novel you'll find out what I mean. I just want to say I wasn't prepared for the book hangover 'Maybe Someday' gave me. I even ended up reading a few short stories after as my head was still swirling in Ridge and Sydney's story.

Snippet from Breaking Butterflies by M. Anjelais

Hey guys! here is a little snippet of Breaking Butterflies which is out in the UK at the moment. Its an interesting original contemporary! and the cover is beautiful!
You can get the Ebook here
When my mother was a little girl, she walked to the play- ground by herself every day after school. I can picture it easily; photos of her as a child are almost indistinguishable from photos of me when I was little. I used to look at her old yellow-edged school photographs a lot. My mother had a shy, quiet look, a round face, and the same straight brown hair I used to have, though in every picture hers was pulled back from her forehead in two tight little pigtails.
She was lonely when she was little. No one ever asked her to play; she was the clumsy one whom nobody sensible wanted on their team, the timid one who was too chicken to climb on top of the monkey bars. It was the same for me. While other children swirled over the jungle gym and slides in a frenzy of make-believe and hide-and-seek, I would sit by the swings on my own, kicking at the dust. We were two of a kind when we were really young, I can tell. But that was before she met Leigh, and long before I learned how to be strong.

I don’t know much about what happened before Leigh, about the lonely time. All that was just a vague prologue;

meeting Leigh, and what happened after that, was the real story. That was what I’d grown up listening to my mother tell and retell, until I’d heard it so many times that I had the dialogue memorized and could whisper the whole thing to myself if I wanted to. Not only was it about my mother, but it was about me too. In a way, it was the beginning of both of us. And I treasured that story so much that I used to let it own me. Looking back now, two years gone by since everything that happened when I was sixteen, I think perhaps that was my first mistake.
My mother’s part of the story started on a Tuesday, a week or so before her seventh birthday. She’d arrived at the playground and found her usual swing occupied by a girl wearing a pink tutu over her clothes. The girl had a pair of rhinestone-studded sunglasses perched on her head, and from her feet dangled her mother’s shoes, red and high- heeled. She was swinging her legs back and forth contentedly, admiring the shoes, but she looked up when my mother drew near. Her hair was blonde and wavy, and reached down to her waist. My mother never mentioned being jealous of it, but I had a feeling she must’ve been.
‘What’s your name?’ the girl said.
‘Sarah,’ whispered my mother. I used to move my mouth along with my mother as she told this part of the story, echoing her lines.

‘Last name?’ prompted the girl.

‘Quinn,’ said my mother hesitantly.
‘Sarah Quinn,’ repeated the girl. She looked up at the sky,

and back down at her pumps. ‘That sounds like a super- hero’s name. The name they have when they’re not doing

EBook Review: Finding Mr Rochester By Trisha Ashley

Name: Finding Mr Rochester
Author: Trisha Ashley
Publisher: Avon

Summary: In this fabulous ebook short story Trisha Ashley will whisk you away for a romantic treat on the Yorkshire moors.
Plus the first chance to read the opening chapter of Trisha’s new novel Every Woman For Herself and get your hands on some exclusive Trisha Ashley recipes.
Budding author and die-hard Bronte fan Eleri Groves decides to escape from her disastrous love life to a remote farm cottage in Yorkshire.
Living in the land of the Brontes has got to be better than her life at home and she hopes that she’ll find some inspiration for her next book.
But what she doesn’t expect is to find her own Mr Rochester and much more than she bargained for …

A warm, witty and romantic short story from Sunday Times top 5 best-selling author Trisha Ashley.

Review: I'm kind of late to the party with Trisha Ashley's work, but with what I've read so far I haven't been disappointed. Since purchasing my Kobo last July I have read a lot more short stories. A lot of which I would never have had the chance to do so as they are only e-books. It upsets and kind of annoys me when I read reviews that say it wasn't long enough. It's a short story, it's supposed to be devoured quickly. Having nearly stopped breathing whilst reading my last read I needed to read something lighter so I knew this short would be the perfect medicine and I was right yay!!
My only criticism of this read is that I now want more from these characters.
Eleri, Henry and Martha are all easily loveable characters. Henry has that brooding (Mr Rochester) air about him, but he's a softie deep down especially where writer Eleri is concerned. If you love Trisha Ashley and the Bronte sisters then you will not be disappointed by Finding Mr Rochester.

At the end of this loveable short story you get two chapters of Trisha's up and coming novel Every Woman For Herself. What I read of Charlie's story I really enjoyed and I even pre-ordered a copy so it'll be winging it's way to my Kobo library on release day which is 8th May 2014.

Book Review: The Rain By Virginia Bergin

Name: The Rain
Author: Virginia Bergin
UK Release date: July 17th 2014

Summary: One minute sixteen-year-old Ruby Morris is having her first proper snog with Caspar McCloud in a hot tub, and the next she’s being bundled inside the house, dripping wet, cold and in her underwear. Not cool. As she and Caspar shiver in the kitchen, it starts to rain. They turn on the radio to hear panicked voices – ‘It’s in the rain . . . it’s in the rain . . . ' That was two weeks ago, and now Ruby is totally alone. People weren’t prepared for the rain, got caught out in it, didn’t realize that you couldn’t drink water from the taps either. Even a drip of rain would infect your blood, and eat you from the inside out. Ruby knows she has to get to London to find her dad, but she just doesn’t know where to start . . . After rescuing all the neighbourhood dogs, Ruby sets off on a journey that will take her the length of the country – surviving in the only way she knows how.

Review: Ruby Morris’ perfect evening making out with Caspar was ruined by a typical British downpour of rain - toxic, deadly rain that would kill you if you touched it or drank it. It sent the whole of Britain into an apocalyptic panic, with the streets full of dead bodies, and looters, and the average person forced into desperate situations. Running through the plot was high-level tension and a very real sense of fear and danger around both the weather and other people. So much so that I actually scared myself silly when I saw real rain clouds outside.

Ruby started the story as a vulnerable teenager with very little clue or common sense – dying her hair and clothes shopping still remained fairly high on her priority list despite the constant danger, which frustrated me a little. But as she tried to find water, safety and her father she had to become more independent. My favourite part of the story was her relationship with her stepfather Simon. Her dependence on him really brought them together and changed the way she saw him, not as an intruder in her family but as an actual father figure.

Ruby’s narrative voice was brilliant and so well written that she was completely believable as a teenager. This hooked me into her story, the high-tension situations and her desire to survive. There were some really sad, heart wrenching moments for Ruby and I felt them all with her.

As I neared the end of the book I was worried what route the story might take – happy ever after, open ending, dramatic conclusion etc. All I will say is that I was personally satisfied and relieved with the ending and felt it fit the rest of the story.

Tense, scary, and high emotion, The Rain will have you on the edge of your seat and afraid to step outside.

Book Review: How To Get A Love Life By Rosie Blake

Name: How To Get A Love Life
Author: Rosie Blake
Publisher: Novelicious

Summary: Some people book last-minute holidays, walk barefoot in the grass or party on a week night. Not Nicola Brown. Nicola is the kind of girl who double-locks the front door, leaves the plastic covering on new furniture, sticks to a super-strict diet and definitely, absolutely Does Not Date.
Her colleague Caroline – loopy, warm and exasperated by her, knows that Nicola's reluctance to lose control means she's living only half a life. And so she lays down the gauntlet: Nicola must cast aside her hang ups and go on as many dates as it takes to find true love in time for Valentine's Day.
The pick of local men is, quite frankly, a bit rubbish. And there are only three months until February 14th. Surely it's an impossible task? But, as Nicola is about to find out on her dodgy dates, letting go isn't quite as scary as she imagined. In fact, it's rather a lot of fun...

Review: I feel like a stuck record but another awesome book that I have found via Twitter.
What did us book worms do before Twitter eh.
Firstly, I must clarify that this is not a self-help book for like minded single girls.
But what I will say is this is a laugh out loud book of pure genius by debut author Rosie Blake, and I cannot wait to see what else she does. Rosie I am well and truly a fan.
I wish I had, had a day off when I started reading this because it is safe to say I would have read Nicola Brown's tale in one sitting if I had, had the chance and the time.
Nicola is a like able and love able young woman that I am sure we can all see a piece of ourselves in her.
Rosie writes effortlessly, it was funny reading through some of Rosie's awful dates but most of us girls can recognise bits and pieces in these strange lads.
Nicola's friend and colleague Caroline and her brother Mark both try and pimp Nicola out to various friends and associates as they both believe that she needs to get out more and live a little and some of the guys she meets are hilarious. Nicola is a tad OCD but she had a horrible break up that has meant she's guarded herself from love and threw herself into her work, meaning she hasn't had much time for her personal life.
Nicola's brother Mark has a sarcastic edge and a good heart but a few of the guys he chooses for his sister are LOL hilarious. You'll see what I mean if you choose to pick up this treat. All I can say is the guy who takes her on a boat in November hmmm it makes an interesting read.

All along the signs pointed to Nicola's perfect guy and it sure was funny seeing her finally put the pieces together. I really really enjoyed reading How To Get A Love Life and I look forward to following Rosie's career......when can I expect the next book????

If you're looking for a book that helps you escape then this is a laugh out loud must...

Book Review: Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea By April Genevieve Tuchole

Name: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
Author: April Genevieve Tucholke
UK Release date: 3rd April 2014

Summary: Faded Gatsby glamour and thrilling gothic horror meet in this gorgeously told, terrifying and dreamy YA romance.

You stop fearing the devil when you're holding his hand...

Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White's sleepy, seaside town...until River West comes along. River rents the guesthouse behind Violet's crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard. Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Violet's grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who likes coffee and who kisses you in a cemetery... Violet's already so knee-deep in love, she can't see straight. And that's just how River likes it.

Review: When I started reading this book I wasn’t prepared for how well written it was, how good the characters were, and how creepy the story would be. Blending horror, mystery, old school glamour, spooky settings, and paranormal elements, this was an eerie thrilling tale of romance and danger.

Seventeen year old Violet was a wonderful protagonist; a perfect mix of eccentric, outcast, snob, brave and down to earth. She wore her late grandmother’s clothes, was a recluse, and drank espresso like a stylish European teen. I loved the way her sleepy life was shaken up with the arrival of River and how she came out of her shell and dealt with everything that happened.

The writing was beautifully descriptive giving the story real atmosphere and tension. Citizen Kane, the house where Violet and Luke lived, reminded me of the glamorous Gatsby house crossed with a dilapidated mansion from a Dicken’s story. It was filled with history but had faded and fallen into disrepair, making it the perfect setting for the mysterious and creepy events following River’s arrival.

River exuded charm and sophistication and despite the fact that there was something dangerous and suspicious about him I couldn’t help but find him completely appealing and fascinating. Not long after his arrival, strange and horrifying things started happening making me wonder just who River was. What I was thinking might be the truth behind River was absolutely wrong – I couldn’t second guess this story at all.

There was obviously a lot of chemistry and magnetism between Violet and River, and for Violet it meant that she was doing and feelings that she had never experienced before with a boy. Whilst the two of them together were smoldering I still wanted Violet to get some sense and kick him out.
A mix of horror, romance and paranormal, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea was brilliantly written, gripping, creepy, and spine tingling good!

A quick interview with Jennifer Armentrout

Hey guys Casey here hope you're well! So to celebrate Jennifer Armentrout's new novel White Hot Kiss being released in the UK we have a quick interview with her. She is a great author and I cannot wait for Opposition! Enjoy!

The Lux series is soon to be over! Are you sad to see it ending?  I’ve loved writing the Lux Series, but I’m happy with the way the story has evolved.  I think when Opposition is released it will be bittersweet for me.

And how is it going writing the last book Opposition?  I finished writing Opposition, and I just completed The Return, the first book in a new NA series that takes place in the Covenant Series world.

If you were to write yourself in to one of your books, what world would you want to live in? I would probably want to live in the Covenant Series world because I’m so fascinated with Greek mythology.  I also wouldn’t be opposed to spending time with Aiden and Seth.

What genre do you find the pace is easier to write?  I don’t find any genre easier to write because it really depends on the book.

If you could go to dinner with any of your characters who would it be and why?  I think I would choose Roth, mainly because he’s so sarcastic.  I tend to be sarcastic myself, so the dinner would definitely be interesting.  Also, he’s hot!

Wait for you is an epic new adult! It's one of my favourites! Are we going to see a lot more NA from you?  My NA books that have been published in the US are Frigid, Wait for You, Trust in Me and Be With Me.  There’s another book in the Frigid Series, and there are four more books in the Wait For You Series including Stay With Me which is going to be released in the fall.  I also just finished writing The Return, the first book in a new NA series, which features Seth from the Covenant Series.

Is there any YA or NA at the moment that you're loving?  I just read See Me by Wendy Higgins and I loved it.

Would you ever consider coming to London to meet your adoring fans? (Waves!)  I don’t have any events planned in London right now, but I would love to have a signing there at some point.
