Book Review: Shadows By Paula Weston

Name: Shadows
Author: Paula Weston
UK Publisher: Orion
UK Release Date: January 3rd 2013
Summary: Love. Nightmares. Angels. War. A fast-paced, compelling debut novel from a fresh new voice in YA.
It's been almost a year since Gaby Winters was in the car crash that killed her twin brother, Jude. Her body has healed in the sunshine of Pandanus Beach, but her grief is raw and constant.
It doesn't help that every night in her dreams she kills demons and other hell-spawn. And then Rafa comes to town. Not only does he look exactly like the guy who's been appearing in Gaby's dreams, he claims a history with her brother that makes no sense.
Gaby is forced to accept that what she thought she knew about herself and her life is only a shadow of the truth - and that the truth is more likely to be found in the shadows of her nightmares.
Who is Rafa? Who are the Rephaim? And most importantly - who can she trust?(less)

Review: Where do I start? I could be here for hours, days and months talking about this book and all it's glory. I'm here to tell you why Shadows by Paula Weston is one of the best YA novels I have ever read.

After reading this book I'm on cloud nine, emotional wreck and In shock. All good things that make up a fantastic YA novel. The plot is beyond spectacular, wiping memories, fallen angel spawn, archangels, blood, fighting, sexual tension all in a neat package that will fly off the shelves. This story literally kept me on my toes, it had my brain working overtime thinking about all the possibilities this story could head and Paula made a fantastic job of it. I found myself when I wasn't even reading the novel thinking about it.

You can defiantly tell Paula has done her research. So much detail has been put into this book about Angels and it never got boring. It never dragged on, it always kept me interested and excited.

The characters in this novel have stood out so much to me. Gabriella. Now she is a character I could read pages after pages about. Paula has written her in such a awesome and captivating way I could barely put the book down.

There is Rafa one heck of a lead male. The sexual tension that exudes him is unbelievable. I found myself blushing at his words. His mysteriousness is what makes his character so intriguing. He's done something to Gabriella and I need to find out what... Paula has written his character perfectly.

This skilfully craft novel contains some history, mysticism, mystery, intrigue, humor and romance in a neat package that is not just entertaining but challenges your mind and imagination. So many twists and turns. So many revaluations and jaw dropping moments. Angels never got old and thanks to Paula they keep getting better and better. If you loved the action and love/hate relationships of Cassandra Clare's City of bones then this is a angelic book for you. Bring on Haze.

Book Review: Hidden By Marianne Curley

Name: Hidden By Marianne Curley
Author: Marianne Curley
UK release date: March 14th 2013
Summary: Ebony has always known that she is different. Her violet eyes mark her out, and her protective parents have kept her in a gorgeous valley, home-schooled, safe from everything—almost as if she’s being hidden. But she’s changing: glowing, getting more and more beautiful, and stronger than anyone knows. Ebony can’t stay hidden for ever, and when she meets complicated, intense Jordan, something explodes inside her—something that can be seen from the heavens; something that changes everything. Ebony is a stolen angel, concealed on Earth. Now the heavens have found her, they want her back.
Review: I heard about this book and alarm bells went off in my head. Why? The plot sounded amazing, the cover looked amazing and I love Angels.

I opened the book and I was in the book heavens literally. This books plot is SO original. Yes there are angels but what goes through this novel is something out of a teen classic. I can see this book flying off the shelves... Why? Because it has to! Here are the reasons;
Once again I love when the girl is the hero, the person who has to save people and the person who everyone relies on and respects. This book screams it at you. Cool angels, bad ass cars, money, powers and good-looking angel princes.

The plot is spectacular, the whole concept of it. Being snatched away from your parents from a world you never thought existed to having two Angels of different worlds searching for you all your life to bring you home and be their wife because of what you have. This skilfully craft novel contains some mysticism, mystery, intrigue, humour and romance in a neat package that is not just entertaining but challenges your mind and imagination. I Also loved the fact that the book switched between two characters. Especially between a male and female character.

Thane the irresistible Angel Prince who you can't help swoon over, his charm, kindness, smartness and good looks make this book what it is! I love how Marianne keeps his character on your toes through out! You never no what he brings to the table. Jordan, The hilarious teenage boy who's been through it all in such a short space of time, but yet is still upbeat and such a reliable character. Then Ebony, Even her name is cool. I can safely say she is one of my favourite characters of 2012. She is amazing. I love her braveness and her stance. Even though she's in a crazy non existing world at the moment you can relate to her.

So as I sit here and write this I have the urge to go back and read it again and again. I don't think this story will ever get old. 325 pages of pure perfection.

Book Review: Mystic City By Theo Lawrence

Name: Mystic City
Author: Theo Lawrence
Publisher: Corgi
Release Date: Out now

Summery:  Aria Rose, youngest scion of one of Mystic City's two ruling rival families, finds herself betrothed to Thomas Foster, the son of her parents' sworn enemies. The union of the two will end the generations-long political feud—and unite all those living in the Aeries, the privileged upper reaches of the city, against the banished mystics who dwell below in the Depths. But Aria doesn't remember falling in love with Thomas; in fact, she wakes one day with huge gaps in her memory. And she can't conceive why her parents would have agreed to unite with the Fosters in the first place. Only when Aria meets Hunter, a gorgeous rebel mystic from the Depths, does she start to have glimmers of recollection—and to understand that he holds the key to unlocking her past. The choices she makes can save or doom the city—including herself.

Review: In a futuristic world ruled by dirty politicians, technology so vast that a finger print can open a door, act as a credit card and trace your every move, A world were mystic powers are seen as a curse and something to be feared, drained and harnessed for energy and for all intents and purposes punished and segregated, that I can imagine that it would be easy to lose sight certain things. Things like love, family and the truth.
Mystic city has it all, romance, adventure, danger, heartbreak, the mob, magic, love triangle, sort of, a load of family drama and a bad boy worth dying for.  The prologue sets the story off with a bang, literally and leaves you wanting more and with very high expectations. And the book doesn't disappoint. With forbidden romance, hidden identities, death and no one being who they seem to be there is a distinct Romeo and Juliet theme going on, and is even referenced numerous times throughout the book, so you know you’re going to get a lot of love, hate and be reaching for the tissues.
The pot is addictive and before you know it, it’s over. Just when you think you have it figured out, you’re thrown through a loop and left confused, outraged and sometimes heart broken. The writing is beautifully descriptive and made me feel like I was looking through the characters eyes, seeing what they see, feeling what they feel and crying when they cry.
I absolutely love the characters, Aria, the politician’s daughter, the it girl of Aeries, the city set high up in sky scrapers to escape the water that covers what once was Manhattan, leads you on a roller coaster of a journey. She’s determined, beautiful, stubborn, has a knack of getting herself into trouble, and has a family too dysfunctional for words But we can’t help but love her, and mostly because she leads us to him, Hunter. The Mystic bad boy with a heart of gold that is literally illegal and leaves you head over heels in love with his super hero tendency’s and heart-breaking love letters.  None of the characters are what you expect and most definitely play by their own rules.
So if you love books full of laughs, tears, betrayal and surprises around every corner then you are in for a treat.

Blogger appreciation.

Through the 3 years of blogging I have done I always appreciate the blogger friends I have. ESPECIALLY a few UK ones I have. We are like a little family, a little community who share books, share laughs and share troubles when we need advice. There is one blogger who I really love. Her name is Vivienne she's owns a blog called http://www.serendipityreviews.co.uk/?m=1 Not only does she have two beautiful twin girls to look after but shes a blogging machine and I've always admired that!

I love her blog, blog posts, reviews her WRITING and her as a person. She supports whatever I do and I the same. People like that are hard to find. If it isn't something they can get out of it then usually they don't want to know.

I wanted to blog this because I had a small conversation with VIV today and it made me think that even the smallest of words to make me feel better especially in my horrible situation at the moment can make my day. You don't like to see a friend sad or upset and as much as life gets crap at times and you feel like your not getting anywhere, trust me it's happened to all of us, you can always count on amazing friends to talk to.

And as I sit here and listen to Talain rayne - twinkle lightly and write this little post I wanted to thank VIV for the loving support she gives me and when she becomes a big author and is at the top with her best selling novel I'll be the first to say that I was a witness to it and a proud friend i am :)

It'll happen.

Love you VIV x
