Random House: Lauren kates Passion Party

On the 26th of September Casey (me) and Hayley from Dark Readers attended Lauren kates Passion Party hosted by Random House UK. What an amazing night it was....even though the weather wasnt on our side (sigh). It was held in the swank Stables Market in Camden such an awesome place to hold a party and meet everyone.

As you can see Hayley had a VERY good time at the party. Cam and Roland anyone? lol. Those guys were very nice and offered us drinks all night...how could we say no?

As you can see from this picture we were treated really well. I speak for myself, Hayley and Alice from the reader room that those cupcakes were amazing and it was so cute that they were in little boxes! and the pretty petals gave a cute touch, and of course the awesome book that is passion and its beautiful cover!

Check out the beautiful dress from the Fallen Cover! it was donated by Silver Lining Sewings Room. Someone actually got married in this dress. Their wedding must of been beautifully gothic. Guys you can actually win this dress go to http://www.ihavefallen.co.uk/ to enter and you could be wearing it! We also spoke to Lauren, we spoke about how the Falle script has been finished and now they are starting to cast
Also the fact that Disney bought the rights. She also made it clear that even though disney bought the rights?
it will still be edgy and stay close to the novel.

Next came the speeches. We foud out that Lauren has sold 1 Million copies of her novel in the UK (CONGRATS) but she also read something special. What you ask? she read the prologue from the next book in the Fallen series that will be released next year which is Rapture. It was intense and Lauren read it so beautifully we just wanted her to carry on...but of course we have to wait till next year. But from what we heard from the prologue its going to be amazing so make sure you pre order your copy when available.

We had a fab time at the Launch and Lauren looked amazing in her snazy dress, everyone looked great actually. Thank you Random House for inviting us and it was nice meeting everyone at the party. and Congratulations to Lauren and all her success.

Book Review: If I Die By Rachel Vincent

Name: If I Die
Author: Rachel Vincent
UK Publisher: Mira
US Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Summary: The entire school's talking about the gorgeous new math teacher, Mr. Beck. Everyone except Kaylee Cavanaugh. After all, Kaylee's no ordinary high-school junior. She's a banshee—she screams when someone dies.
But the next scream might be for Kaylee.
Yeah—it's a shock to her, too. So to distract herself, Kaylee's going to save every girl in school. Because that hot new teacher is really an incubus who feeds on the desire of unsuspecting students. The only girls immune to his lure are Kaylee and Sabine, her boyfriend's needy ex-girlfriend. Now the unlikely allies have to get rid of Mr. Beck…before he discovers they aren't quite human, either.
But Kaylee's borrowed lifeline is nearing its end. And those who care about her will do anything to save her life. Anything.

Review: Their back! Back and better than ever. This book was completely opposite to what I was expecting. Such a captivating plot that will have you on the edge of your seat.
As soon as I opened this novel it pulls you in. So much is going on is just the first few pages. From the beginning till the end I was on edge turning each page. Its was like a time bomb waiting to happen it was fantastic. Kaylee, Nash and Tod are back!. You expect after all Kaylee and Nash's hardships nothing could get in the way of their love but could it? Who could possibly be able too? That thought I had running through this entrancing novel from beginning to end.

IF I Die is defiantly the best out of all the Soul Screamers. This skilfully craft novel contains some mysticism, mystery, intrigue, humour and romance in a neat package that is not just entertaining but challenges your mind and imagination. There are few new enticing characters in this novel I would be here all day if I talked about how awesome they are but If you like heroic, challenging, scary characters then this is the book for you.

So many twists and turns shocking revelations and more things between Tod and Kaylee that you never thought you would see happen. Beautifully written and Rachel Has defiantly took a risk and it totally paid off. Cannot wait for the last instalment, its going to be emotional.

Book Review: By Midnight By Mia James

Title: By Midnight
Author: Mia James
Publisher: Orion

Summary: APRIL DUNNE is not impressed.
She's had to move from Edinburgh to Highgate, London, with her parents. She's left her friends-and her entire life-behind.
She has to start at a new school and, worst of all, now she's stuck in a creepy old dump of a house which doesn't even have proper mobile phone reception.
Ravenwood is a prestigious academy for gifted (financially or academically) students- and the only place her parents could find on incredibly short notice. So she's stuck with the super-rich, and the super-smart...and trying to fit in is more than tough.
It's intimidating and isolating, even when she finds a friend in the conspiracy-theorist Caro Jackson- and perhaps finds something more than friendship in the gorgeous, mysterious Gabriel Swift.
But there's more going on at Ravenwood than meets the eye.
Practical jokes on new students are normal, but when Gabriel saves her from...something...in Highgate Cemetery, and then she discovers that a murder took place just yards away from where she had been standing, April has to wonder if something more sinister is going on.
...and whether or not she's going to live through it...

Review: This was the first YA novel that I'd ever read that was based in England.
April Dunne is originally from Edinburgh and she's had to move to Highgate, London, leaving everything she's ever known behind in Edinburgh.
What I loved about this is that I can relate to the places.
Edinburgh is one of my favourite cities so I can understand why she's sad to leave.

What also had a huge impact on me is the reason April had to move to London.
Her family moved because her journalist dad lost his job on 'The Scotsman' and relocated to Hampstead, London.
As a trained journalist this was something else I could associate with.

April is an ordinary teen, whose been taken away from her friends.
So she's obviously your average wayward teen who feels like her life is over as she's been taken away from her friends and the life she's always loved.
She's a character that you can't help but love.

Another character that I fell for just as April did is Gabriel.
I'm not usually one for the mysterious types but there's something loveable yet intriguing about him.

The one thing that I was a little unsure of was how close some of the text is to Twilight. With similar descriptions between April and Gabriel, to that of Bella and Edward.

The description of this novel is amazing, the imagery makes you feel like you're experiencing what April is. The setting of the graveyard makes you scream at April. Why would you want to be alone in a graveyard after dark?

Ravenwood is a prestigious academy for gifted students. This is also the only place her parents could get her into. But is there more to the academy?

The twists and sadder parts of this book are intense and emotional.

I really felt for April you just want to hug her.
I didn't realise there would be anymore books in this series and I'm excited to see what happens next.

Review: Fury by Elizabeth Miles

Title: Fury (The Fury Trilogy #1)
Author: Elizabeth Miles
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Date Published: August 30, 2011

Summary:
Sometimes sorry isn't enough....

It’s winter break in Ascension, Maine. The snow is falling and everything looks pristine and peaceful. But not all is as it seems...

Between cozy traditions and parties with her friends, Emily loves the holidays. And this year’s even better--the guy she’s been into for months is finally noticing her. But Em knows if she starts things with him, there’s no turning back. Because his girlfriend is Em’s best friend.

On the other side of town, Chase is having problems of his own. The stress of his home life is starting to take its toll, and his social life is unraveling. But that’s nothing compared to what’s really haunting him. Chase has done something cruel...something the perfect guy he pretends to be would never do. And it’s only a matter of time before he’s exposed.

In Ascension, mistakes can be deadly. And three girls—three beautiful, mysterious girls—are here to choose who will pay.

Em and Chase have been chosen.

Review: First off, I want to thank Good Choice Reading for giving me the opportunity to read Fury for an arc tour. I was very excited to get this book in the mail, and blown away with the cover. I remember seeing pictures online of what the cover of the book looked like, but in person, it doesn't do a justice. I was blown away... the beautiful, long red hair (who I'm assuming on the cover is Ty) will catch anyone's eyes, the gorgeous dress (which I'm determined to find something similar ;-) haha). The gold letters on the title "Fury" tie the cover together- entire cover gives the reader a sense of what this book could be about in terms of feelings and genre; because to me, it screams dark and mysterious.

I loved fury!!
The story takes place in a town named Ascension- which given the idea of this book and the events that come about, the name of the town ties in nicely- just a little something to think about. Elizabeth Miles, the author, does a wonderful job at giving subtle hints into a storyline... enough to make a reader feel on edge or uneasy, but not enough to give anything big away... Just yet!

The characters in this book are what I'd describe as typical high school teenagers, very cliche; parties, awkward secret love triangle with the best friend's boyfriend, football team- which increases a person's popularity if you are associated with it, and last but not least cliques- jocks, nerds, goth, etc. << this is everything that I think of when I think of high school unfortunately and Fury has exactly that.

Everything is calm in Ascension until one night Sasha tries to commit suicide- in the events to follow, both Em Winters and Chase Singer find themselves in the amidst of a deep red orchid that won't go away. This orchid has more meaning than a simple flower but beyond that is who the that flower from. They both come to the realization that "Sorry" isn't enough to get rid of the flower... or the Furies that keep haunting them. These sisters are determined that these two get what they paid for or even worse...

Villain- to the extreme- is Ty (a Fury)... the reader may see what she's up to even before Chase does ;-)

I believe several underlying messages could be taken out of Fury, the biggest one being "What goes around comes around." Some people really do believe this; for those people who are good to others, then others will be nice and they will have a happy life in return. For those who are cruel, they will eventually have to pay for their actions in some way or another. Elizabeth, goes about this in Fury, but in extreme circumstances... to the point that the characters are being taunted by three sisters... Furies... who have existed for a while and come back to take revenge on those who deserve it the most.

I enjoyed Fury, and I'm looking forward to continuing the series. I am very interested to read what happens next in regards to Em and the tie she has with the Furies. When it comes to witches, spirits, myths, etc I get a little uneasy and scared- to say this book had me up parts of the night thinking over what happened and the events that played in the novel, would be an understatement. This book is probably geared more towards older teens in regards to the context!

Rate: 4 of 5

Book Review: Angel Fire By L.A Weatherly

Name: Angel Fire
Author: L.A Weatherly
Publisher: Usborne
UK Release Date: October 1st
US Release Date: November 1st

Summary: This is the thrilling second chapter in the electrifying "Angel Trilogy". Angels will never be seen in the same way again. Gorgeous, charismatic Alex has the courage and skill of a trained Angel Killer. Unique, dazzling Willow has the beauty and power that comes with being half-angel. As the power of the malevolent Church of Angels grows, now it's up to Alex and Willow to train a new team of Angel Killers.

Review: I'm sure you all agree that we have been holding our breathe for this novel. So once again I opened the pages to Willow and Alexs world I fall in love with the story all over again. 708 pages of pure perfection.

Willow and Alex are back! And even more in Love than before. You expect nothing to come in their way of love but could it? Who could possibly be able too? That thought I had running through this entrancing novel from beginning to end. This is a book for all tastes. This skilfully craft novel contains some history, mysticism, mystery, intrigue, humor and romance in a neat package that is not just entertaining but challenges your mind and imagination.

You can defiantly see L.A Weatherly has done her research from the amount of detail to the amount pages. I think its descriptive and effective. Lee has created word images so vivid that it is almost like watching a movie. She takes you for a romp through beautiful Mexico as an AK team trains and finds themselves in a action packed suspenseful event with the evil Angels that had my heart facing and had me excited from beginning to end.

Lee has written Willow and Alex's scenes so beautifully and romantic that I had myself swooning through out. So much detail and love has been put into these two characters and you can defiantly see that while reading. Sometimes heat ache but sometimes glorious.

Just when I couldn't love Alex enough another amazing guy comes along. Another fascinating memorable character who totally grabs your attention through out. Seb the half Angel. His good-looks and charm will have you second guessing your love of Alex its defiantly the case of teams. I think Lee has written him wonderfully and every time I turn the page I was hoping the scene had him in. There are few new enticing characters in this novel I would be here all day if I talked about them all but I will say this. If you like heroic, challenging, attractive funny characters then this is the book for you.

Once again I love how it changes to different characters point of views. I think Lee did this so effectively and really made the characters not at all two dimensional. The plot is once again just as amazing as the first novel Angel/Angel Burn. Better in fact. It was cutting edge, suspenseful and sometimes spine chilling. I think Lee has once again written a jump out of your seat novel. Such a fascinating memorable read that I will never forget. Bring on Angel Fever.

Book review: Betrayed by P.C. and Kristin Cast

Title: Betrayed
Author: P.C and Kristin Cast
Publisher: Atom

Summary: All any of us could talk about was Chris's disappearance and how bizarre it was that he had last been seen so close to the House of Night. I didn't want to believe it. But everything inside me said that the kid would be found but he'd be found dead...

Things seem to be going pretty well for Zoey Redbird. She's settled in at the House of Night finishing school and is coming to terms with her incredible new powers. It all seems too good to be true. And guess what?

Someone has begun murdering human teenagers, and all evidence points to the vampyres at Zoey's school. Which means her first assignment as the leader of the Dark Daughters is finding out which one of her classmates or-gulp-teachers is a killer. Sigh. And she thought her boyfriends (yes: plural) were going to be her biggest problem this year....

Review: 'Betrayed' starts just where 'Marked' finished.
The newly marked yet completely out of the ordinary fledgling Zoey Redbird, has now been given the huge responsibility of becoming head of the Dark Daughters.
This is a huge honour among the 'House Of Night'.

Just like 'Marked' this novel is predominantly from Zoey's viewpoint.
The pace of 'Betrayed' is more intense than 'Marked', with Zoey's intuition playing a huge part in the story.

I really loved the twists and turns in this novel. It had me on the edge of my seat and all I could say was "Woah" as the twists were major leaving me begging for more.
But can Zoey trust Aphrodite or is her enemy up to no good to discredit Zoey?
In order to regain her status as head of the Dark daughters.

I never liked Aphrodite in the first novel yet at times I do feel sorry for her in the second.
Although I am still wary of her throughout the novel, she's always too good to be true.

The imagery and description of Zoey wanting blood is intense and strangely PC and Kristen Cast have made it sound as beautiful and delicious as chocolate.
Which is worrying considering I'm not a fledgling/Vampyre.

What really freaked me out about this novel was the scenes between Heath and Zoey making out.
These scenes are both very intense yet a little odd.
The reason I say odd is because this novel was written by a mother and daughter.

I truly love the closeness of Zoey and her best friends Stevie Rae Erin Shaunee and Damien.

The sad twist has me in knots and I'm in awe of what happens next.
It makes me think about my close friends and family in a huge way. It made me realise more than ever before that the people around me are more than amazing.

Zoey's grief is so strong and powerful that it actually brings you down a little. Zoey is such a loveable character that you just want to comfort here and see that she comes out on top.
The character that surprised me in this novel was Nefret. I adored her in 'Marked' but let's say it's all change in the latest edition.

The ending was intense yet beautiful and intriguing.
I can sense that 'Chosen' will be an even better read than 'Betrayed' as Zoey has made some unlikely enemies.

Stealing Phoenix Blog Tour: Yves guide to Wrickenridge

Yves Guide To Wrickenridge

                                                      (Joss's inspiration for Wrickenridge)
Hey, Phee, welcome to Wrickenridge, the greatest little town in the Rockies, a couple of hours west of Denver, Colorado. I thought you might find a few pointers helpful in your first days here. Don’t worry, whatever happens, I won’t let you get lost.

  1. Learn to like skiing. With snow on the ground for half the year, it helps if you get into alpine sports. Zed likes boarding, but that’s him. The rest of us prefer two skis. You don’t have to be good, just willing to have a go. Oh and don’t let Sky try to teach you.
  2. Accept that High School is insane. It is a gossip machine and full of what Mom calls ‘characters’. If you choose to get your High School certificate in Wreckenridge, stick with Sky and Zed, they will help you through the mine field, as will Nelson, Tina and Zoe. Those three are great friends to Sky so I am sure would be ready to stand by you too.
  3. Avoid Nelson’s grandma, Mrs Hoffman. She means well but she can be overwhelming.
  4. Don’t believe anything bad anyone says about me (especially if my brothers are the source) but do believe every tall tale about them – it will be the truth!
  5. Don’t go shopping on your own with my mother. You’ll regret it.
  6. Drop by the new art centre run by Sky’s parents – it’s awesome. Tina has exhibited a few pieces there too. I think it is a special place thanks to Sally and Simon Bright.
  7. Let me take you white water rafting. It has to be experienced when the river is high. When you get through, I’ll get you your own hoodie. Then again, you seem to have stolen mine, so maybe I’ll get just myself a new one.
  8. Oh yeah, about that stealing thing. Best not to try it in Wrickenridge, sweetheart. Zed got ‘cuffed and stuffed’ by Officer Hussein for a tussle last Halloween. (And have we let him forget it? Of course not). I don’t want to have to bail you out too. If you want to practice your, er, skills on anyone, let it be me.

Yours,
Yves

Review: A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies

Title: A Beautiful Dark
Author: Jocelyn Davies
Publisher: HarperTeen

Date Published: September 27th 2011

Summary:
On the night of Skye’s seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites—like fire and ice—Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye’s life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move—only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.
In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can’t help falling for, and Devin, who she can’t stay away from, the consequences of Skye’s choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.

Review: The summary of A Beautiful Dark is very intriguing; it captivates a reader right off the bat. After reading the short summary, I couldn't wait to sit down and read so that I could learn more about Skye and the choices in which she would eventually have to make.

From the very beginning, I was pulled in. I wanted to know more about this teenager named Skye, and the reason that she was living with her Aunt Jo. I wanted to know more about her friends, especially Ian ;-) and as time went on I wanted to learn more and more about the two boys who had taken precedent in her life. The author, Jocelyn Davis does a tremendous job at giving subtle hints into a character's future, only to be taken off-guard by another event that intercedes. She also leaves details about Jocelyn's life open, so that the reader is drawn more into the book- curious- as to why certain events in her life have occurred.

Let's talk about the characters...
Skye is this sweet teenager who is living her normal life, or what she's grown accustomed to as being "normal." Her friends are tons of fun- I really loved the dialogue between Skye and her best friend Cassie who is fun, flirty and outgoing. And even though Ian isn't so lucky at getting a chance with Skye, I loved his personality and I would like his character to play a little more of a role in the next book... guess we will have to wait and see!

Mysterious... that's what girls want in a guy right? well, in this case YES! oh my goodness the personality of Asher and Devin, so called cousins, are dark and mysterious with a side of sweetness! Who could NOT fall for them? Asher and Devin share a secret one in which affects not only their lives, but they reveal a secret about Skye herself that not even she knows about. Once this secret is out, Skye has to make decisions unlike any she's ever had to decide upon before- and some are out of her control.

Everything begins to fall apart when another girl, Raven, someone who is familiar to Devin and Asher but is new to Skye (for all she knows at least) enters the picture. Raven gave me the creeps! haha Very cold-hearted, but at the same time I  had to realize that she didn't always have a choice in her decisions.

I loved this book- but I will say that I didn't feel as though all the ideas were "fresh"... that's not a bad thing, as I said before I really enjoyed reading A Beautiful Dark. Jocelyn took the idea of paranormal teen romance and everything that a reader loves about that genre and combined it into a well written novel.

Oh.. and I'm not the always a fan of cliffhangers. Mainly because I'm impatient and want to know more right away. Well, Bravo! Jocelyn, you've captured this reader into wanting to find out more RIGHT NOW! lol

A Beautiful Dark is an ideal novel for any teenager who is looking for a sweet book but one that also has a suspenseful storyline with several plot twists!

Angel Fire pre-blog tour post - The Angel Fire blog tour schedule and extract

So guys the time has come! Angel Fire is about to be released on October 1st in the UK and the blog tour starts that day too! but before all that Usborne have been kind enough to give us an exclusive extract from Angel Fire to celebrate all the exciting things that are starting for Angel Fire (release, blog tour etc) Make sure you hit up all the blogs on the dates because there is some exciting stuff to be shown. So here it is guys the exclusive never before scene from Willows persepective. It involves a new special character that everyone is dying to find out about more.

That night I had a dream.
I was standing at the top of a high tower, gazing out at what had to be the largest city in the world. It was endless, like something from a science-fiction film. Low mountains crouched on the horizon in every direction; the city crept over them and kept right on going, fading into hazy infinity. Somehow I knew this was in Mexico – and that it was where Alex and I were meant to be. My heart tightened with urgency as I stared at the sea of buildings. We had to come here. We had to.
In the middle of the city lay a broad stone space: an immense square, with a cathedral at one end and a long, official-looking building stretching down the side. There was a stage set up near the cathedral, and rock music playing – it thumped through me as thousands danced. Dozens of angels glided over the square, too, like hawks hunting over a field. I took a panicked step backwards. They’d see my aura; they’d know what I was—
The world whirled and shifted; the crowd scene disappeared. Now twelve angels hovered over the city, brighter than any I’d ever seen – like twelve blazing suns that poured light over the concrete buildings below. An ancient, ruthless power connected the twelve; I shuddered as I felt it. The angels started to glow even brighter still, burning my eyes until I had to duck my head away. As I did, they vanished in an explosion that was sensation rather than sound – a shock wave that howled past, knocking me off my feet.
Seamlessly, I was in my angel form, flying from the tower as the screams of a million angels tore through me. But my wings were too heavy. I couldn’t stay aloft; I was falling – I had to hold on tighter, fly harder—
I landed with a bump. Silence, so still and perfect, like cut glass. I was in a park, in my human form again. Soft green grass; palm trees mixed with poplars and cypresses. The twelve angels were gone…but I wasn’t alone.
A boy stood watching me. He was a little older than me, about the same height as Alex, with brown hair that fell in loose curls. A glint of stubble; high cheekbones and strong features – a beautiful face that I knew had been through great pain, yet it held such humour and tenderness that it twisted my heart.
We stared at each other. I had no idea who the boy was, but the thought of ever being without him filled me with despair. The unexpected feeling robbed the breath from my throat, so that at first I couldn’t speak.
Who are you?” I whispered at last.
In answer, the boy stretched out his hand. “Come, querida,” he said softly.
His eyes were urging me to say yes, and part of me wanted to link my fingers through his so badly that it hurt. No, I’m in love with Alex, I thought. And then: But, oh my god, to not be with you – how could I possibly bear it?

OHH wasn't that so good? a love traingle? who is this new guy?!? We will just have to wait and see!

Book review: Soul Beach by Kate Harrison

Title: Soul Beach
Author: Kate Harrison
Publisher: Indigo
Release date: 1st September 2011

Summary: When Alice Forster recieves an email from her dead sister she assumes it must be a sick practical joke. Then an invitation arrives to the virtual world of Soul Beach, an idyllic online paradise of sun, sea and sand where Alice can finally talk to her sister again- and discover a new world of friendships and secrets and maybe even love...
But why is Soul Beach only inhabited by the young, the beautiful and the dead?
Who really murdered Megan Forster?
And could Alice be next?

Review: Well, what can I say?
Firstly, I love the fact this novel is based in London.
I became increasingly intrigued that a lot of what happens is connected to Greenwich, which is where I work and a short journey from where I live.
Most YA novels that I read are based in America and with the title being 'Soul Beach' I assumed this would be too.

When I read the summary for this book I was intrigued.
Alice is surrounded by grief following the death of her beautiful older sister Meggie.
How would you feel if you received an email from your dead sibling on the day they died?
The pace of this book is fast and exciting.
The novel is fun, thrilling and captivating. I'm in awe of each and every page.
Everyone grieves in a different way and at a different pace.
This is a huge part of Alice's story.

When Alice first visits 'Soul Beach' as a reader you are tense and on edge wondering what will happen.
I love the way Kate describes everything to do with 'Soul Beach' it makes you feel like you're walking on the sand and can hear the waves rolling in.

Everyone on 'Soul Beach' is beautiful and as ever my attraction to the guitarist still shines through. The imagery and explanation of this novel is empowering.

'Soul Beach' is somewhere you can escape from the reality of life.
Just like a good book, a song or a DVD can be.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel but the ending was both beautiful and annoying.
What a cliffhanger I am eager for the next part of Alice's fantasy/reality story.

Review: Beauty Queens by Libba Bray

Title: Beauty Queens
Author: Libba Bray
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Date Published: May 24, 2011
Pages: 390

Summary: The fifty contestants in the Miss Teen Dream pageant thought this was going to be a fun trip to the beach, where they could parade in their state-appropriate costumes and compete in front of the cameras. But sadly, their airplane had another idea crashing on a desert island and leaving the survivors stranded with little food, little water, and practically no eyeliner.

What's a beauty queen to do? Continue to practice for the talent portion of the program--or wrestle snakes to the ground? Get a perfect tan--or learn to run wild? And what should happen when the sexy pirates show up?

Review: I read a small interview with Libba Bray that was posted on a book blog I regularly check, she talked about this book, Beauty Queens along with some personal question and answers. That was my first time ever reading the synopsis and also getting to know this particular author. I thought that the interview was hilarious. I was curious to see how her quirky, fun and sometimes sarcastic answers would translate into writing so I decided that this book was a must read!

This isn't your ordinary book about a bunch of teenage girls who are about to take stage to compete for the title of Miss Teen Dream. In fact, nothing about this novel is "ordinary"- the plot is wonderful! Filled with tragedies, sarcastic& moody girly girls who haven't a clue as to what life is really about, pirates (yes! pirates.. and this part of the book was my favorite- hysterical!!), and evil Corporation people!

At times, I thought that certain events were a little far fetched... but later on realized that everything came together nicely.

On to the character...
I can't really choose a favorite Dream Team girl to talk about becuase it surprised me with how different they all were. In the beginning the girls are stuck up (some of them), they don't know how to survive on an island because all they think or even care about is beauty twenty-four seven. That's how they were raised- to try and be the best. Each character blends with each other because the reader doesn't know enough about the character to give each their own identity. The beginning reminded me of everything I hated about high school; cheerleading and always needing to look perfect in order to get noticed by anyone. It gets ingrained in girls heads that beauty is the most important thing out there. Throughout the book though, each contestant begins to have an insight into who they are... and they help each other out along the way.

So that's why I can't choose a favorite because I liked each of the girls own characteristics. That isn't to say that I didn't relate to a certain character more than another- because I did!! I think given the talents and diversity that Libba brings into each of these girls, any reader will be able to find once person they can relate with.

BUT...
I can choose a character that I HIGHLY dislike...
and that'd be Ladybird. Every time Miss Ladybird (a past Dream Team contestant and who is look so highly upon by the girls) was referenced, even from the very beginning of the book, I wanted to scream! lol. And surprise, surprise as the story continued I felt even angrier with her... and why I'm at it I'll just say the entire Corporation made me angry. Which was Libba's intention I'm sure. So it worked :-)

The Corporation commercials that are randomly thrown in throughout the book are hilarious! I took a little time to read them carefully to see if there were any underlying meanings as to what the girls were supposed to get out the commercials and what they actually did!! Its pretty interesting actually to think about.

Libba Bray took what is and could be, a serious subject matter (EX: plane crash, survival & teens being raised to believe that beauty & winning is only importance in life) and made light of it. Anyone looking for a little change when it comes to both genres and pace... this is it!!
